Toys for Tots – Bomber Style
Every year for the last 12 years the Clearwater Lady Bombers adopts kids that are in foster care, group homes, etc. and collect Christmas presents for these less fortunate kids. For the last several years we have partnered with Healthy Families of Pinellas to adopt kids and provide them with a good Christmas. In 2019 we adopted 54 kids and with COVID creating hard times for everyone we wanted to go big in 2020 and requested 70 kids to adopt. We did one better and adopted 77 kids for Christmas 2020. In 2021 we requested 90 kids and adopted 92 kids total. In 2022 we went big with 100 requested kids, and we ended up with 112 kids.
For 2023 with 12 teams, we requested 120 kids and got just that. In the end we got presents for 125 kids, the most ever. We gathered together at the Holiday Inn Express in Feathersound where our players and parents wrapped the presents, enjoyed dinner from Mike’s Pizza, and waited for the social workers to arrive to deliver the presents. For 2024 who knows what our goal will be, 150?
Giving Back
The Clearwater Lady Bombers partnered with E-Star Roofing of Clearwater to sponsor 2 $5,000 scholarships with Clearwater For Youth. The recipients were presented their scholarships at Baycare Ballpark by Scott Cole, owner of E-Star, and Jerry King, President of the Bombers. This was a first for Clearwater For Youth where a youth group gave back and we will continue to do this going forward as we want to help our community and give someone else a chance to succeed in life.
Karen Aungst Grant
For the 3rd year in a row the Clearwater Lady Bombers were awarded the Karen Aungst Grant to provide training for our coaches. The first year we received the award we sent our coaches to USF to attend the Art of Coaching seminar with USA Olympic coach Ken Eriksen along with several other top NCAA coaches from UCLA, Boston University, and USF. Last year with the COVID shutdown we didn’t have to many opportunities so we created one by bringing in the UICs for USA and PGF softball to give our coaches a rules clinic and game management clinic. We continue to provide opportunities like this for our coaches to make sure we have the best for our players not just on the field but off, both physical and mental. We strive for excellence and that starts with our coaches.
Coach Jan Bio
Freedom Spirit of Florida Women’s Softball Team is continuing the legacy
of our recently deceased coach Janet Lee Ellis by making a memorial cash
donation to the young girl’s softball team, the Clearwater Lady Bombers.
This presentation was done on Monday May 2nd at the Eddie C. Moore
softball complex on Drew rd. Jan’s granddaughter, Alyson, presented the
